I'm coming home, so tell the world that I'm coming home.

Alright, so. Haven't updated this bad boy in so long. But....I sucked ass at blogging my time here huh? Oh well.
Right now I have some asshole above me banging some vent or something. Whatevs.
LAST FINAL WAS TODAY GUYS :D
It was so exciting, I didn't even care about the exam. I just wanted OUT. So I sat there and wrote enough to get by. At the end of the day, my black history grade doesn't matter as I'm sure I've done good enough in my other classes that this can get dropped.
So, my room is in bags to pack up. Going to wash my clothes and pack them into my suitcase :D
Only Friday then I go home.
And I'm so RELIEVED. Student Finance came through and have paid me my final loan. If customs wants me to pay anything, I CAN PAY.
AND I HAVE THE MONEY FOR HONG KONG. I'm so excited guys.
I can't wait to go home, and I cannot WAIT for Hong Kong. You have no idea HOW exciting this is. Btw, this is telling me Hong Kong is spelt wrong. Isn't that nice, a country. Spelt wrong. Whatever.
I'll give you some of my pretty pictures at the end of this.
Gah, so excited for life.
It's funny, I couldn't wait to leave England, but as much as I've liked being here, it's made me realise how much I LOVE England. I think America is too similar but not tbh.
I'm glad I got to visit Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon though, at least I did something other than stay in Utah the entire time!
I'm contemplating teaching in China or Japan after I finish university. Broaden my horizons. Plus I love Asia.
This entire year has brought my grade up too. Thank goodness for easy American grading! Hopefully my entire year works out at a First, which is super impressive.
So I shall leave you with some pictures :)

So close!

So...3 days until I leave for Utah!! D: so nervous about it. Eeek.
Got my dollars on Friday to take to America, the rest will hopefully be sorted out whilst I'm there!

They look so strange! It's gonna take some getting used to. And can I say, fresh dollar bills smell awful :/

I had my leaving party on Saturday, it was awesome. So many people came and my grandparents combined gave me £70 which I used today to buy stuff I needed...and stuff I didn't lol.
Me and Kirsty made cakes, we were meant to make one big cake with the American flag inside...but it didn't work out. This is the result lol.

They tasted good though soo...that's good right?
Kirsty bought me this as a leaving present!

They're so gorgeous! :D I wore them on Saturday and I personally thought I looked rather pretty :)

So today I took Kirsty to Leeds to go shopping and get her on the train home, and to commemorate her coming here to Leeds to see me she bought this from Pandora...

It's a little silver horse bead because I love horses :) Isn't it so cute?

We also went into Debenhams and Harvey Nichols..and were a bit naughty as we bought make up. We called it 'friendship make up' to commemorate our friendship and her coming here lol...just an excuse to buy expensive stuff. Look at all what we bought!

We both bought a Lipglass from MAC, and both bought an eyeliner from Urban Decay. I also bought a lipstick from MAC whereas she bought an eyeshadow pencil. I love it all! Cost me £39 in total, same for her!

This is the Lipglass in Nymphette. It's gorgeous on :D I combined with this....

Which it Frost. It looks orangey, but when you put it on it just gives it a softer red and this gorgeous gold glow to it! And the lipglass just adds shine to that glow! Amazing!

And this is the Urban Decay eyeliner in El Dorado. It's so pretty, I'm going to combine it with the Naked palette by them too.

Overall a good day! I also bought my travel adapter, Simple face wash, toothbrush and toothpaste. I finally bought a sensitive toothpaste as my teeth are far too sensitive :/
We also bought some books from Waterstones because I'm a silly girl who can't stop buying books.

Only 3 days to go!

Wish me luck.

Annoying

PLEASE NOTE. THIS IS NOT A POST THAT IS JUST BASHING AMERICANS AND AMERICA. THIS IS A POST TO TRY AND GET ACROSS THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN AMERICA AND EUROPE. I'VE NOTICED A LOT OF COMMENTS ON NEWS ARTICLES THAT SEEM REALLY UNEDUCATED AND IT REALLY IRRITATES ME. THIS IS SIMPLY FOR ME TO VENT AND SHOW THE OTHER SIDE TO THE ARGUMENT. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE ANYTHING SAID IN THIS IN OFFENCE.

Okay so I'm reading this article on CNN about how Americans barely have any vacation time and work a lot, and Europeans work but get good vacation time etc. The articles here.

But this one comment really irritated me:
'As people clamor for us to take on a European vacation mentality:  Gas, $10.00 US per gallon, homes are much smaller and more expensive, effective tax rates are much higher.  Getting full time jobs is much more difficult because of the benefit cost employers incur.   But you get more vacation days than the Americans!'

And this one:

'I've traveled Europe, South America and Asia.  I take it from your comment that you have not.    With respect to standard of living, very very few countries top the U.S.'

It reaaaally annoys me when I read comments from Americans like this on CNN. Don't get me wrong, I know plenty of Americans won't hold this view, but I'm tired of hearing that they view Europe as a socialist almost communistic/fascist (cos that works out ¬_¬), cramped, expensive shitty continent that's always trying to impose its beliefs on America. Saying that we're a continent of poor health care because we pay tax for it, that we're all socialists just because we pay tax etc.

Well shockingly enough, we're not. Yes, I'll admit most of the European countries have socialist sympathies and we have this belief that we need to take care of everyone. And this may outrage some Americans, but I honestly think it's down to the fact that Europe is a very, very old continent with very old countries. We've learnt that this is a better way to gain a high standard of living. I know America has a good standard too, but it's different. In America if you can't afford to pay for it, you're not going to get it.

Yes, fuel in Europe is more expensive because of taxes. Yes we're outraged over it, but the simple fact is, our public transport service is light years ahead of the Americans. From what I've read and seen from my American friends, they have to drive everywhere, whereas our cities and towns have grown over centuries and centuries to be more compact, and the closeness of all the countries has resulted in an excellent public transport system. I'm sure the same can be said for Japan too.

Homes are smaller in Europe, because the countries are not as bloody big as America! According to one website Britain is twice the size of New York state. New York state is NOT that big. And consider this, the US has a population of well over 307,000,000. The UK's population is 61,000,000. A population that is around 20% of the US population, in an area that is 65% smaller than the US. Yes, we have small houses and they're cramped. We've got used to it though, we've had to have these for centuries. We can't have the grand big houses that Americans covet because the simple fact is, there isn't enough room for them in Europe!! We have houses that are considered big, we have stately homes that you can't really live in because they cost too much. Rich folks have mansions, but normal people? A good sized house is probably 3x smaller than an American house. That's what happens with these things.

Houses are expensive, along with other things, because the exchange rate is much higher! If my families ex-council terraced house was sold, it would be equivalent to around $200,000. Things are expensive here because that's just the way things are, inflation and so forth. We're used to it, but evidently Americans seem to view it as the end of the earth!

Taxes are high in Europe yes, because we have a much, much better welfare system than America does. Healthcare, unemployment benefits, incapacity benefits, the list goes on. I don't understand the American mentality that helping other people is on par with a criminal offence pretty much. The debate over health care was ridiculous over there, and it left so many Europeans baffled. Why the hatred over something that would benefit the people of their nation? Why is it just because someone earns money and can be helped if they get ill, then someone who is not as fortunate or who has a life threatening disease should be denied healthcare, just because the people paying taxes felt it was wrong? You'd be hard pressed to find a European who'd willingly not pay taxes to go towards healthcare, because as I've said many times before, you never know when you need it!

It may not be as good as American health care, but it's there and that's what matters! I never understand people here who complain about the health service. I feel like screaming at them that there are poor people in America who will never get surgery or go to the doctors when they're ill because they're afraid of how much it will cost or whether it will put them in debt! It makes me laugh when we complain about prescription charges here because I just think about Americans and feel humbled by it.

My mum and dad both get regular prescriptions, and if we had a system like America then we'd be in so much debt right now. My mum had glaucoma in her eye and had to have it removed, she has severe back problems that also requires medication and my dad also requires medication. My grandma had lymph node cancer and managed to recover, my grandma and granddad have angina and my granddad has had heart attacks before. My granddad who died had a brain tumour and lung cancer. And throughout it all, we got the best care we could get for completely free. Yes, free. We may pay much higher taxes for it, but if you just think of the sheer cost this would have been in America, we may as well have committed familial suicide.

Getting jobs is difficult? I don't know what this guy was on about but that's just a pile of crap. In a country of 61 million people we have around 2.05 million unemployed. That's not that bad. End of argument. And I don't know what he's on about benefit costs employers have to pay. Employers don't have to do anything, except for redundancy deals, sick pay etc. Not exactly back breaking and most employers don't really mind it. It's not that ridiculous.

Not many countries top the US in standards of living. Admittedly yes in 2010 at least. Only Norway, Australia and New Zealand topped them. But in the overall top 10, how many were European? 6. And in 2009? 8, the USA wasn't even in the top 10. Don't get me wrong by the way, because neither was the United Kingdom, but sometimes arrogance really irritates me.

The United States is NOT the best country in the world. Neither are the European countries. Whatever country you live in, that's what you view to be the best, but for goodness sakes at least do research before you slag off an entire continent! I love the USA, I love Americans. Everytime I hear one I get excited, I'm going to the USA for my academic year next year and I can't wait, but I really, really hate some of the pig headed, stubborn and arrogant Americans who comment on news websites and completely put down Europe. Please, if you're going to bitch about us, kindly come and visit us first!

We are not a bad continent, we are not all Stalin liberal, we are not mean spirited. We are European, we are proud of our heritage and we really, really do not like being constantly put down.

Just like Americans hate their stereotypes, so do we.

Woopsie

So I was a little bit angry last night, I totally apologise for the tone of the blog :/
I just can't wait to leave England behind for a year. Don't get me wrong, I love England itself, we have so much culture and history. It's just the people can be selfish bastards who forget about others feelings. Maybe it'll be the same in Utah, but I doubt it. American's seem to be more giving than the English in general, and I just can't wait to get out of the same monotony of life!!!

Things can only get better

You know what? Fuck England. Fuck England, and fuck 'friends' and fuck everything here right now. Bring on America. I swear I hope everything works out because I need a fucking break from this place. The amount of people I actually care about now, and who I know care about me properly I can count on ONE HAND. So fuck all this. America, you had better not let me down.

English nature?

So I don't know if it's just because I'm English or what but I always feel like I'm being a nuisance to people!
I'm pretty sure the English are well known for being reserved and polite and I've never felt more like it lately.
See I always go to ask my American friend Annie stuff, but then I just don't because I feel like I'm being a nuisance! And she's already told me before that I'm not and it's fine, but I still feel that way! I'm pretty sure I should try and get over this but I just can't help it. She's already been so ridiculously nice to me that I feel like I'm asking too much for anything else!

I mean, she barely even knows me and already offered to drive me from the airport to Logan and even to stay with her family for Christmas. I can't tell you how flabbergasted (it was the only word I could think of aha) I was to get a reception like that! Just try and imagine someone doing that here! It's unheard of, and I dare not ask anything about it because of course, I just feel like that's just plain rude! You don't just ask things like that in England, it's just not done! But from what I've heard that's how it's done in America. I can't even imagine how awkward I'll feel. I don't know, I just feel like I'm intruding? But I don't think she knows how much I appreciate what she's offered, I mean staying with her family for Christmas? I hope I do get to, well I know for a fact that I can't come home, but to experience Christmas with an American family? A different perspective in a different culture? She's already said that they're excited, and I hope they still want me to go as I'm excited too. I hope to meet them and hope that they want to meet me too! My only worry is that people tend to promise me things and then go back on them. I desperately hope that's not the case. If I do get to, then that's already one point in America's favour.

Urghh it's frustrating! I can't even explain how nervous I get aha. The thing is as well, my family are just like Americans then. We go out of our way to help other people! My family would offer for someone to stay for Christmas, drive people places. Basically bend over backwards to help others. The only thing that has generally gotten both me and my family is to get, and forgive my French here, fucked over. But it seems to work in America?

Maybe that's why I've always been obsessed with America. Because it's so like me, I'm outgoing usually, outspoken, loud and always happy to help others. The only problem is that here in England it screws me over. I mean I can count on my hand the number of people I think care about me. I'm beginning to hate life because I just feel like I get screwed over by everyone and everything in it. That's why I'm hoping that America will change me, or at least be the place where I can be myself again.

I hope that I meet more people like Annie who are so willing and happy to help someone they barely even know. I hope that I can find myself in America again, as silly and cliché as that sounds, because unfortunately I'm losing myself in England. I want friends who are outspoken like me and encourage me to actually do stuff instead of just letting me sit in my room all day and waste away. I hope that when I go out to town, I get to go out with friends instead of by myself. It's a terrifying thought that I'll be nearly 5,000 miles away from home, and the sad fact is that the only thing I'd miss is my family. I'm ready to grow my wings in a sense and see what's available to me.

I moved away from home nearly 150 miles away to try and find myself. I became independent, but I didn't find myself. In fact I lost myself instead, I love Leicester and I love university. I love Georgie and Emma, but that's all I have to show for my step out of my comfort zone. So maybe an entirely different country will be it. My only worry? What if I hate it and can't come for nearly a year? My other worry? What if I make the best friends ever and never want to come back? Have to leave them back in America and come back here? I don't know.

So I think in conclusion to this ridiculously long, angtsy post, I can surmise that I'm excited and nervous for America. There are people there that I can't wait to meet, like seriously I can't wait to meet Annie again and just thank her in person for offering to do all this amazing stuff. I just can't wait to go. I'm just getting bored of life right now. I need something to spice it up, and though most people would laugh at the thought of Utah of all places being the place to spice up anyone's life, I think it will for me. I've idolised the place already, I'm just hoping it won't let me down.

Exams are over!

So my exams are over....yaaaay! This makes me super happy because I hate exams. I hope I did okay in them but time will tell.

So no more of this. Not that I did any. Worst work ethic ever.
I spent Wednesday, Friday and Saturday working, I've officially decided after this year I'm NEVER working in a bar ever again. It's the ultimate irony, the girl who doesn't like alcohol spending part of her life working with the stuff. People are so darn rude! And I hate picking up all the rubbish afterwards. So lame.
And this week I'm working a ridiculous amount, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday late lounge (a.k.a working from 10:30pm to 5am at the earliest) *sigh* S'all money right? And I need this.

Lovely colourful pounds. This totally made me realise that it's going to take me forever to understand American money. I mean, all their notes are green. Which is NO help for me, they're going to be getting lots of notes tbh. I admit, I prefer our pounds or even the Euros, because they're totally colourful and pretty.

And on that note, I have to prove I have around £7500 by March 7th. Can you say...WHAT THE FUCK? Student finance isn't even OPEN yet, and I have as much chance of them completing my application in a month as I do of raising the dead. Apparently I can send this years student finance to prove I get money and will be getting money. Combined with what I have so far, I've got around...£6400? I know right, I need £1100 at least. And I am NOT earning that in a month. God damn. At least I'm not like some other people, some need to prove they have $15,000, and people at George Madison University have to prove $18,000. Ouch.

That's about it really, can't think of anything else pressing to add :)

Many things!

So since the last blog update which was ages ago, lots of things have happened. I got onto the year abroad course again, and am hoping for Utah State University! It's got the courses I want and hopefully I can afford it! Plus my American friend Annie goes there :) It's always good to have at least one friendly face!
Secondly, my job is going swimmingly. I'm managing to be at all my lectures and seminars and handing in my essays on time which is good! Alongside multiple presentations. I got paid today too and got £458 for only 3 weeks work. Which is fantastic! That's around $710 for America!
There's not much else I can think of that's pressing at the minute.
Of course when I go to America this is obviously where I'll blog everything that happens there and update with some pictures. I already have a lot of what I'd love to do planned out. A short list is this:
- Go to Las Vegas for my 21st, Utah is only a state over from Nevada!
- Take pictures of the Greek frat houses, Wal-Mart and the biggest car I can find
- Go to New York for New Years Eve possibly?
- Go to Washington D.C
- Go to Los Angeles, Huntington Beach and San Francisco
- Go to Orlando and enjoy the theme parks!
- Go to the Grand Canyon!
- Make lots of American friends
- Try every variety of Coca-Cola and Pepsi/whatever else I can find!
- Buy a box of really cheap ass Lucky Charms and boast on facebook
- Make my life look amazing.

That is all.

Nothing interesting

Yeah this is my first blog post but there is nothing interesting here, I promise.
Not that anyone is even gonna care haha.
I only made this because I was bored and I started watching Tomb Raider and decided to make a list of everything I want to buy :/
So here's my list of things for me to eventually buy

DVD's
Lara Croft Tomb Raider Cradle of Life
Hellboy 2
Hercules
Emperors New Groove
Monsters Inc
The Mummy 2
The Mummy Rise of the Dragon Emperor
The Young Black Stallion

Books
Patricia Briggs - Silver Borne
Kelley Armstrong - The Reckoning
Kelley Armstrong - Tales of the Otherworld
Charlaine Harris - Grave Secret
Keri Arthur - Moon Sworn
Lauren Conrad - Sweet Little Lies

And yeah I can't think of anything else...how lame?
I suppose main points before anything are

  • Transfer onto the 4 year course
  • Save up money for America
  • Get accepted to Colorado
  • Save up more money for America
  • Go to America :D FAIL. Not going anymore :(
I can dig that :)
That's all, I'm sure I'll rant at some point aha.
